James Island Outreach (JIO) is pleased to announce that Donna Norvelle joined our staff as our Administrator on September 19, 2023.

Donna started her non-profit career as a Vista Volunteer, and has since served as Human Development Coordinator for the City of Roanoke Virginia, where she was responsible for numerous programs addressing homelessness, alcohol and drug addition, and community education.  She has served United Way of Roanoke Valley, Virginia as Manager of Community Initiatives, where she was responsible for developing proposals for funding, recruiting volunteers and gaining community support to sustain Success BySix, a United Way early childhood advocacy program.  She has also been a Grant Writer for non-profit and religious organizations including East Cooper Community Outreach and Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church.  Most recently she has been a successful entrepreneur, establishing a home décor business.

Donna brings extensive nonprofit experience and a servant’s heart to James Island Outreach. Donna will continue the mission of reaching the underserved local community with food assistance and other basic necessities as well as help guide the organization as it strives to increase the level of service provided to the James Island and Folly Beach communities.          

On her interest in continuing to serve others through James Island Outreach, Donna commented, “It is a blessing to join the JIO team to continue serving our wonderful community. The spirit, commitment and dedication of its volunteers are inspirational.”.

Donna replaces our former Administrator Elizabeth Hamilton, who recently took a position with Bishop Gadsden Retirement Community.
